CONCERT REVIEW: HEAVY IS THE CROWN TOUR

March 20, 2018 Culture, Music

I’m not sure what I did in my past life to deserve such good fortune in 2018 or maybe all my stars are finally aligned and I’m feeling the effects. Whatever the case may be, 2018 has started off on such a high note; I pray I can keep up the momentum for the remainder of the year. This weekend was another mini-testament of my newly found good fortune. Blessings! From attending my friends’ Lowkey Ted Talk event, to hosting a dope ass playlist party, to then seeing Big K.R.I.T. in concert, y’all, I’m feeling great and ready to send these good vibes your way.

Justin [Bae] Scott, aka Big K.R.I.T, aka love of my life, aka I’m lowkey jealous of his girlfriend (but I’m happy for you girl!), dropped his latest double album, 4eva Is A Mighty Long Time, back in October 2017 after two years of excruciating anticipation. I would be lying if I said I was a fan of the album when it first dropped. I didn’t hate it, but I certainly was expecting a lot more cause his mixtapes are pure FIYAHHH! Return of 4Eva hits me in a different way every single time! However, I decided to give the album a second go ‘round after listening to KRIT’s set on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. Hearing him explain what specific songs mean and the inspiration for writing them for the album was just beautiful and gave me a better insight to the music for this album. If you guys want to check out, click here. Needless to say, I fell in love all over again. SN: Idk why Apple Music users are so anti-Spotify. I’ve discovered so much undiscovered talent and musical gems that I would have never came across on Apple Music. Spotify is also the reason how I knew KRIT was coming into town! Shoutout to you Spotty!! Living in the mid-west is not the most convenient when it comes to going to concerts. But when I saw my country soul-mate was making his way to Cleveland, OH in less than 48 hours I had to make it happen by fire by force. & I’m glad I did!

Big K.R.I.T featuring CyHi The Prynce: Heavy is the Crown Tour, man I can’t even begin to explain how DOPE this concert was. First and foremost, if you are unfamiliar with the legend that is CyHi, please get hip and do so ASAP! I could dedicate a whole post to his greatness and contribution to rap culture. As soon as CyHi the Prynce took the stage I knew this whole show was about to be litty and all I could do at that point was pray my phone didn’t die on me. His energy when he came out was MAD! He hit up with songs from his debut album, No Dope on Sundays, including my personal favs: ‘No Dope on Sundays,’ ‘Dat Side,’ and ‘Cydel Young’ off of his mixtape, Black History Project. The CyHi-K.R.I.T. pairing was smart. Whoever came up with that duo for the tour deserves a raise.

After a brief intermission, bae took stage with the energy of a thousand Mississippi aunties and grandmas cooking for the 25th annual family reunion aka OD energy! This concert has a bit of everything for everyone. “1999” for the singles in the crowd who want to be serenaded, and serenade he did. “Ride wit Me” for the OG hip-hop heads who understand southern rap, RIP to Pimp! “Aux Cord,” no explanation needed. “Lay Up,” for a more intimate vibe for the lovers in the crowd. “Mixed Messages,” for all my Black Lives Matters, FUCK Police Brutality Warriors. “Confetti” for us who just want to get lit! And my ALL TIME FAV off the album “Bury Me In Gold” to remind us all life is more than material things.

Overall this concert was perfection with a capital P. Big Ups to everyone in the K.R.I.T camp who worked to make this tour happen. Your fans and future wife (I’m manifesting what my heart desires y’all, don’t judge me LOL) appreciate what you do to keep rap authentic and enjoyable.

Drop a comment below if you had a chance to catch this concert, or plan on going! I’d love to know what city you caught my hubby in. xxx
